X-Position 13: Nick Lowe on Rachel's Askani memories

In this week's edition of X-Position, editor Nick Lowe was asked a question about Rachel's Askani memories:
10) Will Rachel ever remember her time in the Askani timeline?

She's got plenty on her mind already (what with her recent family massacre, her past in the future as a Hound, and her feelings for Korvus).

Another question Lowe was asked relates to the way Rachel has been handled by writers' lately:
12) A lot of writers seem to shy away from characters with complicated histories as they seem too intimidating for new readers. What's your take on this?

It all depends on the character. There are a million ways to approach it. I always tend to push my writers toward simplicity, but there's definitely something to be said for character histories. One of the best things about working on characters with such rich histories is that you can either draw on those histories, or just not mention them. And that's not a bad thing, in my book. I don't bring up that Zepplin incident from my childhood in every current situation in my life. There's no reason why characters need to have every moment from their past referenced at every moment.

It looks like the "just not mention them" option is the prevalent way of handling Rachel's complicated history in the X-Office.

X-Men Emperor Vulcan #1 Preview Art

Marvel released a few pages of preview art from the first issue of Emperor Vulcan. Rachel appears on several of the pages.

Assistant editor Will Panzo talked briefly about the mini series:

It may be personal for Havok, but Marvel Girl and Polaris are onboard for other reasons. The X-Ladies are seeing the bigger picture. Vulcan is oppressing the entire Shi'Ar empire, and although he has personal ties to the Summers family and the X-Men, he's still a threat to millions more lives. Is this a fight of both vengeance and the protection of innocent life?

"A little of both. But there's a wildcard in there as well, a surprise that will make both sides rethink this conflict," affirms Panzo.

Emperor Vulcan #1 is due out on September 12th.

Rachel Question in X-Position Week 10

X-Editor Nick Lowe was asked a question about Rachel in this week's X-Position:

Question: And for my last question, Rachel Summers possessed a small fraction of the Phoenix force during her space adventure. A fraction of infinity is infinity, so can we expect Rachel to go "Dark Phoenix" anytime soon as her connection with the force has been re-established?

Nick Lowe: I'm not going to discount anything. Rachel is, with or without the Phoenix Force, one of the most powerful characters in the universe. That makes it convenient when she gets in arm-wrestling tournaments.
